Cropping changes the visible page boundary. Resizing changes the target sheet and may scale or crop content. They solve different problems even when the pages appear similar in a viewer.

If a downstream workflow requires an exact A4 or Letter sheet, crop first and resize only when necessary.

Measure the unwanted border

Inspect pages with the smallest safe margin and enter conservative top, right, bottom and left values. Mixed page sizes need representative checks.

Preserve a safety area

Leave space for ascenders, handwritten marks, printer limits and slightly misaligned scans. Use millimetres consistently instead of estimating from screen zoom.

  • Test portrait and landscape pages.
  • Do not crop as a security measure.
  • Return to the original if content is clipped.

Keep the sheet size when required

If “same page size” means the physical sheet dimensions must remain unchanged, use a layout workflow that repositions or scales content on a new sheet rather than altering the crop box alone.
