Secure redaction is an information-removal task, not a drawing task. The finished PDF must not contain recoverable underlying text, images or repeated values elsewhere.
Always work from a controlled copy and preserve the restricted original according to your records policy.
Find every occurrence
Search exact values and common variations. Check headers, footers, comments, layers, attachments, metadata and scanned images—not only the obvious paragraph.
Apply and flatten the selected regions
Cover complete character shapes with a small safety margin, then process through the dedicated Redact PDF workflow. Do not substitute crop, highlight or a black shape.
- Check every selected page.
- Include surrounding punctuation where needed.
- Use OCR first when search must find text in scans.
Attempt recovery before release
In the downloaded output, search for the removed value, select and copy around the area, inspect document properties and verify every page. A second reviewer is valuable for sensitive disclosures.
